Matthew Morgan was born in Fort Benton, Montana, in 1889, the son of Thomas F. Morgan, a close associate of Thomas C. Power. The senior Morgan was at the Battle of the Little Big Horn shortly after the battle, was a salesman for T.C. Power and Brother in Fort Benton in 1880, and owned a store in Dubuque and Stanford, Montana in the late 1880s and early 1890s. Thomas Charles Power was born at Dubuque, Iowa, May 22, 1839, the son of Irish immigrants, Michael W. Power and Catherine McLeer Power.
